LifesaverSIM Joins Ukrainian DefenceTech Delegation at DSEI Japan

May 27, 2025

A Strategic Step for Ukrainian Technology

LifesaverSIM was invited to join a delegation of leading Ukrainian technology companies at the DSEI Japan 2025 exhibition, an initiative driven by a strategic partnership between Japanese technology leader Rakuten Group and Ukraine's defense tech cluster, Brave1. The event marked the first time Ukrainian defense technology has been officially presented in Japan.

A Delegation of Ukrainian Innovators

The delegation showcased a range of Ukraine's most advanced technologies. We were proud to represent the nation alongside a cohort of its most innovative companies:

  • Dwarf Engineering LLC: Specializes in fault-tolerant software and hardware systems for drones that overcome radio interference. Their Narsil solution enables drones to operate semi-autonomously in environments with heavy electronic warfare.

  • Farsight Vision LLC: Provides AI-powered geospatial intelligence for defense and security, converting drone footage into 2D/3D maps that automatically detect objects and changes, even in GNSS-denied environments.

  • Griselda: A defense technology platform designed for mission-critical environments, providing real-time situational awareness and rapid response capabilities to help units make faster, more informed decisions.

  • LifesaverSIM: Leverages gaming and technology to provide a powerful, immersive training platform that enables first responders to learn, practice, and maintain life-saving skills through game-based simulations on mobile devices.

  • Skyfall Industries LLC: Ukraine's largest UAV manufacturer, known for its highly efficient and versatile "Vampire" and "Shrike" FPV drones, which have been used in over one million successful operations.

  • Swarmer: Develops revolutionary software that allows a single operator to simultaneously control hundreds of multi-domain unmanned vehicles and robots, enabling them to cooperate in large-scale, autonomous operations.

The Rakuten-Brave1 Partnership

This initiative is based on a collaboration between the defense tech cluster Brave1 and Rakuten Group. Brave1 is a Ukrainian government-established agency dedicated to connecting innovators with the resources, skills, and opportunities needed to develop advanced defence and dual-use technologies.

The partnership with Rakuten, a global leader in internet services based in Tokyo, shows a strong and ongoing commitment to support Ukraine. This relationship is shown by a 98% penetration rate for the "Rakuten Viber" messaging app, the opening of a new Rakuten office in Kyiv, and the raising of over 1.3 billion yen for humanitarian aid. Mickey Mikitani, Chairman and CEO of Rakuten Group, outlined the goals of the DSEI Japan partnership:

"I have been deeply impressed by the resilience of the Ukrainian people and their government, as well as their high level of technological expertise. Rakuten is proud to leverage our global network to support these innovative Ukrainian companies. Through this partnership, we hope to contribute to a swift post-war reconstruction of Ukraine and a future where technology creates a safer world for all."

DSEI Japan 2025: A Global Hub for Defense and Security Innovation

DSEI Japan is a biennial event that plays a crucial role in promoting Japan's defense and security capabilities. As the nation's only large-scale, fully integrated defense exhibition, it serves as an essential platform for industry to connect with global stakeholders, fostering technological innovation, partnerships, and knowledge sharing.

LifesaverSIM's Showcase: A Natural Fit with the Japanese Ethos

Our platform was shown as a valuable tool for gaining important real-world skills through gaming and technology. The simulator allows first responders to learn, practice, and keep life-saving skills through engaging, game-based scenarios on standard mobile devices. It offers training that is both scalable and accessible, without needing specialized hardware. This unique method of training received a particularly positive response from Japanese visitors for two main reasons that connect well with the Japanese mindset.

First, in a country where gaming is an important part of the culture, our game-based learning approach seems natural and effective. Second, and most importantly, our platform connected with Japan’s focus on preparedness. Influenced by the risks of major earthquakes and tsunamis, this mindset emphasizes the importance of practical, life-saving skills. This makes LifesaverSIM a relevant tool for improving both national defense and everyday civilian readiness.

Reception and Interest in Japan

The strong engagement at our booth showed a clear interest in this new training approach. We had important meetings with senior officers from several branches of the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF), including the JGSDF Medical Service School, as well as officials from the Japanese MoD and the Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA). Our demonstration also gained interest from international military delegations, including members from the UK MoD, the US Army Reserve, and the Singapore Armed Forces, and attracted visitors from major companies, both Japanese and global.

Strategic Impact and Future Outlook

This event served as a significant entry point into the Asia-Pacific market. The journey to Japan shows the results of our vision and teamwork. We thank Rakuten Group and Brave1 for their trust and support. As we move ahead, our main mission stays the same: to empower people with the skills to save a life.
